EURE – Sadie Whitley Hedgepeth, 93, of 610 US Highway 13 South, died Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Hedgepeth was born in Harrellsville on October 2, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Leo Stanley Whitley, Sr. and Fannie Mae Lowers Whitley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Pollard Hedgepeth; her daughter, Sandra H. Pope and husband, Vernon; and her brother, Stan Whitley.

Formerly employed with Carolina Aluminum in Winton, she later worked with Greene’s Meat Market in Eure and the Waste Convenience Site at Roduco. A faithful member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, for many years she served as the church custodian and on the Grounds Committee, was a member of the Gates County Rescue Squad and its Ladies Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eure Volunteer Fire Department, and the Hall Ruritan Club.

Surviving is her son, Ricky Hedgepeth (wife, Paige); two grandsons, Rodney Pope (friend, Leigh Morgan) and Timmy Hedgepeth (wife, Kimberly); and two great-granddaughters, Hailey and Emily.

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 18th, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery and will be conducted by Pastors Eric Bass and Ricky Barnes. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service or all other times at the residence.
