The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Windsor Police Corporal J. Mizelle and K9 Officer “Slash” assisted the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office in the arrest of Arcelious Valentine Jr. of Aulander. Valentine was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of crack cocaine, carry concealed gun, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration plate.

On Friday (Aug. 11), BCSO Sgt. D. Young and Deputy B. Manning initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for displaying an expired registration plate. During the traffic stop, a K9 was requested and Corporal Mizelle responded and deployed “Slash” to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle.

The K9 indicated a positive alert to the presence of narcotics, which resulted in a probable cause search of the vehicle. Through the course of the search, a firearm and crack cocaine were seized from the vehicle.

Valentine was booked in the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under a 15,000.00 secured bond.

“I want to personally thank the deputies for their hard and dedicated work to the citizens of Bertie County. I also want to think Corporal Mizelle and K9 Slash for their assistance,” stated Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin.

Ruffin noted that Slash graduated on Aug. 4 from training at Ventosa Kennels.
