AHOSKIE – Sonja Martin Liverman, age 83, of Union Township, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the Gates House Assisted Living of Gatesville, NC.

Mrs. Liverman was born on August 12, 1939 to Raymond and Mattie Davis Martin in Milwaukee, NC. Sonja was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family deeply and loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She was a telephone operator for Carolina Telephone for many years. During her spare time prior to her illness Sonja enjoyed reading and doing word searches. She was cherished by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Along with her parents, Sonja was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Liverman.

Sonja is survived by her two daughters, Robin Liverman Ward and husband Samuel, Jr. of Manteo, NC, and Trena Liverman Conner and husband Vernon of Ahoskie, NC; three granddaughters, Rachel Sumner and husband Dustin of Como, NC, Kristen Ward and husband Gianluca Bini of Columbus, OH., and Bridgette Morris and husband Michael of Ahoskie, NC; three great-grandsons, Dalton Morris, Tatum Morris, and Grady Sumner; and two great-granddaughters, Dalis Morris and Evelyn Sumner.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC 27910 and other times at the home of Mrs. Sonja.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Randy Miller, and Pastor Doran Wray officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
