COLERAIN – Dorothy Winborne Griffin, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the ECU Health-Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor, NC, after being in Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation for rehab.

Mrs. Griffin was born in Hertford County, NC, on December 12, 1929, a daughter of the late Willie Percy and Alice Earl Byrum Winborne. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, and worked hard on the farm, doing what she loved, farming, gardening, and harvesting what she grew. After the death of her husband, Dorothy and her daughter continued with their produce business, with Dorothy picking strawberries until the age of 88. Along with her love of farming, Dorothy was a devoted, faithful member of Harrellsville United Methodist Church, as long as her health permitted.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman Lee Griffin; her sister, Nannie “Polly” Winborne Casper; and brother, Joseph Winborne.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Leigh Griffin of Colerain, NC; and a sister, Alice Felton of Greenville, NC.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie, NC with Rev. Walter Johnston, III, officiating.
