CHESAPEAKE, VA – Libby Ann Jones Pearce Etheridge of Chesapeake, VA went to be with the Lord Friday, April 14, 2023.

Born November 5, 1933 in Colerain, NC, she was the daughter of Wayland R. Jones, Sr. and Elsie White Jones. She graduated from Mars Hill High School and attended Chowan College. She started her career by working at a local bank in Ahoskie. After marrying in 1959, she continued her career by working at two financial institutions in Norfolk, Virginia.

Libby took an active part in her church, South Norfolk Baptist Church, having served on several committees, Director of WMU, and interacting with homebound seniors at the J.O.Y. Club. She was also a member and past president of the Women’s Club of South Norfolk. She was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and also worked as an election officer on Election Day.

She enjoyed traveling with her friends, playing cards, shopping, preparing meals to share, and spoiling her nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wayland Sr. and Elsie; her husbands, Samuel R. Pearce and C. Gatewood Etheridge; her brother, Wayland R. Jones, Jr.; sister, Barbara J. Parker; and brother-in-law, Bernard Parker.

Libby is survived by her brother, Billy Joe Jones (Beth) of Colerain, NC; two stepsons, Gatewood Etheridge, Jr. (Edna), and Andre’ Etheridge (Susan); sisters-in-law, Leah Weatherly (Edward), and Ellen Jones; daughter-in-law, Robbie Etheridge; four nieces, Dawn Copeland (William), Terri Jones (Bill), Ann Williams (Bo), and Caroline Kebshull (Bill); four nephews, Scott Jones (Dana), Jeffrey Jones (Lori), Wayland Jones III (Tammy), and Chris Jones; along with numerous other relatives.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 1-2 p.m., one hour prior to a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Anita Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at South Norfolk Baptist Church, 1101 Chesapeake Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23324, on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2 p.m.
