Chowan slugs its way past Mid-Atlantic Christian

MURFREESBORO – Chowan pounded out a season-high 19 hits in a 13-4 rout of Mid-Atlantic Christian at home on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

Aidan Feather and Warren Bailey led the Hawks with four hits each. Feather went 4-4 with two doubles, while Bailey went 4-5 with a double.

Christian Bartholomew went 3-5 with three RBI. Tyler West and Ty Johnson picked up two hits each. West posted a home run and a double.

All nine batters recorded a hit in the contest, while seven Hawks posted a RBI.

Carson Everette picked up the win on the mound in a bullpen game, tossing two shutout innings. John Yancey, Patrick Krack, Konner Tomczak, and Landon Oughton also tossed shutout innings.

Chowan built a 7-0 lead after three innings and then sealed the win by combining for five runs in the fourth and fifth frames.

Three of those runs came in the bottom of the first where Bartholomew singled up the middle on the first pitch. Geomar Santana doubled to right center as the throw home would nab Bartholomew at the plate. West hit a RBI groundout to plate the first run. Bailey singled to left before coming around to score on Feather’s double to left center. Rowan Hudson hit a single to left to plate Feather to lead 3-0.

The Hawks would add a run in the bottom of the second as Johnson hit a double off the fence in left center. Santana produced a RBI groundout to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Bailey ignited the offense in the third inning with a double to left followed by a single by Feather. Bailey would score on a passed ball. Chowan would load the bases on a Johnson walk and a Caleb Karie single. Bartholomew and Santana drew walks to plate a pair and lead 7-0.

Mid-Atlantic Christian would get on the board in the fourth inning plating three runs to cut the deficit to 7-3.

Chowan would get those runs back in the bottom of the inning as Bailey singled and Feather doubled to left. Hudson drew a walk to load the bases before Jackson Dunlap singled to plate a run. Karie produced a RBI groundout before Bartholomew singled home a pair to lead 11-3.

West gave the Hawks a 12-3 lead in the fifth on a solo home run to left. Chowan added a run in the seventh on a Hudson sacrifice fly and a run in the eighth on a throwing error to complete the scoring.

Chowan is scheduled to take on nationally-ranked North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas series this weekend. The series is being altered due to weather, check gocuhawks.com for more information later in the week.
