WINDSOR – Windsor Police Chief Justin Jackson has confirmed that one of his officers was involved in a shooting on Monday at the Cashie Apartments located on Sterlingworth Street.

There was no immediate information released about why the officer fired their weapon. The medical condition of the person that was shot is also unknown.

WITN-TV’s website reported this morning (Tuesday) that a 22-year-old female was shot on the first floor of the apartment building, which is the site of the old Bertie Memorial Hospital. The TV report went on to say that the female was at the apartment building visiting her father.

Jackson told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that he would release a statement about the shooting sometimes today (Tuesday) or Wednesday.

The North Carolina SBI is handling the investigation, as is mandated in instances of law enforcement officer related shootings.
