AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police Department made an arrest today (Friday) in a homicide that occurred on Saturday, Feb. 25 in the parking lot of New Market Shopping Center.

Ahoskie Police Chief Jimmy Asbell said the suspect, a 16-year-old male juvenile from Colerain, is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of 21-year-old Ky’un Taylor of Kelford.

The juvenile has been placed in secured custody, Asbell said.

Taylor was shot as he sat behind the wheel of a vehicle parked in front of Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant and later died at the local hospital.

“I want to thank my staff and the agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for working tirelessly from the onset of this investigation,” Asbell said. “I also want to thank those from the community who provided information that aided in the investigation that led to the arrest.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragic event and the community as a whole,” Asbell added.

Asbell said he and his investigators are still seeking additional information regarding the deadly shooting. He encouraged those that have information to share to contact the Ahoskie Police Department at 252-332-5011.
