The newly established Choanoke Area Housing Consortium, consisting of Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, Martin and Northampton counties and most municipalities, is conducting a series of community events to gather resident feedback related to the affordable housing needs in the region.
Community feedback will help prioritize the uses of the federally-funded HOME Investment Partnership Program. These funds will be provided, starting this year, annually through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Consortium’s intent is to build a comprehensive local housing strategy that serves as a guiding framework to help increase affordable housing options – HUD refers to this strategy as a Consolidated Plan.
Public input is a critical part of developing the Consolidated Plan. Area residents are invited to participate in one of several upcoming community input sessions to learn about the process and to provide your input for the current needs assessment.
Those sessions are as follows:
Bertie County: Monday, March 6 from 5:30-7 pm at the Community Meeting Room (Bertie County Public Library), 102 Lancaster Avenue, Windsor
Northampton County: Tuesday, March 7 from 5:30-7 pm at the Northampton County Senior Center, 110 Ridge Crest Lane, Jackson
Hertford County: Wednesday, March 8 from 5:30-7 pm in the Conference Room at the Hertford County Department of Social Services, 704 North King Street, Winton.
