JACKSON – Dixie Merriman Stanley Harrell passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

She was born on October 12, 1958 in Ahoskie, NC and spent her childhood and teen years in Woodland, NC. Dixie graduated from Northeast Academy in 1976 and attended Meredith College for three semesters before transferring to Atlantic Christian College, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1981. Her life’s work was as a child health nurse at the Northampton County Health Department for over 25 years.

Dixie was married to Paul Riddick Harrell on June 11, 1983. They settled and raised their family in Jackson, NC, which is home to this day. She loved to cook, knit, tat, read, and travel. Dixie also loved the beach, especially Hatteras Island, and NC State football games. Most of all she loved her family.

Dixie was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva Applewhite Stanley; and her father, Dr. John Hampton Stanley. She is survived by her husband, Paul; her sons, Davis and Brodie Harrell; her daughter-in-law, Megan Harrell; her granddaughters, Ella and Josie Harrell; her sister, Gen Harrell; and many in-laws and cousins.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the Church of the Saviour in Jackson, NC. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the family home at 207 Atherton Street for a celebration of her life following the service.
