MURFREESBORO – Janie Rebecca Smith, age 51, affectionately known as “Anma” to her precious granddaughter, passed away on December 27, 2022, at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.

Mrs. Smith was born in Hertford County, NC, on December 1, 1971, a daughter of the late Ellis Ray and Jerri Jackson Brown. Janie was a member of Creeksville Baptist Church and worked as a Secretary for Farmers Peanut Market in Seaboard, NC. She loved spending her spare time, crafting, and loved to travel and see new places and things. Janie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, and loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Arabelle.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Chris Miles and fiancée, Alex Stephenson of Murfreesboro, NC; three sisters, Lana (Robert) Flythe of Murfreesboro, NC, Bonnie (Julian Marty) Jenkins of Milwaukee, NC, and Connie Jenkins of Murfreesboro, NC. Also surviving is her niece, Lauren Flythe; and nephews, Ryan Flythe and Ray Jenkins and fiancée, Rachel Garcia, and their children, Ryland and Chloe Jenkins; and special friend Joseph Jernigan.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Creeksville Baptist Church, Creeksville, NC, with Rev. Matt Ledbetter officiating.
