RALEIGH – The N.C. State Fair is honoring farm families again this year through the Farm Family of the Day program.

Among the 11 farm families chosen, one is from the Roanoke-Chowan area. Miller Farms of Gates County will be featured at the N.C. State Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Miller Farms is currently being operated by the sixth and seventh generations of the family.

The program, sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, saw great success last year.

“At Tractor Supply, we know how challenging running a family farm is and we are proud to support and celebrate these men and women of North Carolina who are vital to our communities,” said Chris Redmon, District Manager of Tractor Supply. “We are honored to call them neighbors.”

The program seeks to recognize and celebrate the state’s rich agricultural heritage and 11 farm families that represent North Carolina’s $92.9 billion agriculture and agribusiness industry.

“The State Fair’s earliest beginnings sought to elevate the understanding of new agricultural practices and technology. Today, one of agriculture’s biggest challenges is helping people make the connection between farming and the food that they enjoy,” said N.C. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Farm families tell that story the best because they are out there every day working hard to grow the food, fiber and fuel that we need. We are excited to recognize eleven more of these farm families this year at the N.C. State Fair.”

The farm families were nominated either by family or community members for their hard-work and dedication to the state’s No. 1 industry, as well as their overall love for the N.C. State Fair. The lucky winners were chosen at random.

Each farm family is assigned a specific day of the 2022 N.C. State Fair, taking place Oct. 13-23, where they will be honored through public address announcements and on-grounds signage, as well as being featured on both the N.C. State Fair and the NCDA&CS blogs and social media platforms. Follow along on those outlets to learn about each farm and what made them stand-out candidates for this year’s Farm Family of the Day program. Each family also received an N.C. State Fair prize pack, including fair tickets to use on any day of their choosing and plenty of swag from Tractor Supply Company.

The 2022 N.C. State Fair is slated for Oct. 13-23 at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The fair offers an experience unique to North Carolina and is a great value with free entertainment, thrilling rides and games, thousands of animals, endless family activities, competitions, vendors and creative deep-fried delights.
