Hawks battle to stalemate vs. Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – A penalty kick save in the 88′ by Charlie Farrar preserved a 2-2 tie as the Hawks fought the final 10 minutes of the contest a man-down against Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday evening on the road.

Farrar tallied six saves in the contest, with none of them bigger coming in the 88′.

Leke Ademola netted his third goal of the season. Harri Lovett secured his sixth assist on the season.

Chowan played the final 9:25 of the match with 10 men.

The Hawks (3-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference action) and Patriots move into a tie for the second spot in the league standings with 10 points.

On the first attempt by Francis Marion, the Patriots would find the back of the net into the top left portion of the goal in the 18′ for the 1-0 lead.

In the 31′, James Randall had a shot saved from the left hand side of the goal. Bradley Binns played a ball up the middle of the box to Randall allowing his attempt to bounce between the feet of the FMU keeper and into the back of the net for the equalizer in the 32′.

In the 72′, Tren Drexhage would work hard for a corner. Lovett sent the corner to the back post and found Ademola for the go-ahead tally.

The Hawks would play the final 9:25 a man down after a red card was shown. The Patriots were given a free kick just outside the top of the box. The shot attempt would be blocked by the wall.

FMU continued to put pressure on the Hawks as a pair of shots in the 83′ would be turned away after a sliding save by Farrar. Another attempt in the 85′ would be punched away by Farrar and cleared away by the backline.

The Patriots would find the hole in the defense after the initial save by Farrar would be corralled by a Patriot and sent a shot into the back netting for the equalizer in the 87′.

Chowan had a chance in the 90′ as the free kick by Lovett was settled by Drexhage that would be missed wide.
