EURE, NC – Phyllis Rothmeyer Hollowell, 87, of 10 Fort Island Road, Eure, NC, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mrs. Hollowell was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on February 23, 1935, and was the daughter of the late William Fay and Lula Mae Brimage Rothmeyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Geneva White; her brother, Jimmy Rothmeyer; and by her husband of over 65 years, Nathan Spencer Hollowell.

Formerly employed as a secretary and bookkeeper, since moving to Gates County she was a faithful member of Eure Baptist Church, its Adult Sunday School Class, and the choir. She and Nathan were instrumental several years ago in developing the church’s Senior Meal Program, an outreach to area seniors where a once a month lunch and fellowship is provided.

Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Freeman (Bill) of Virginia Beach, VA and Kathleen Smith (David) of Palmetto, FL; two sons, Douglas Hollowell (Ray) of New Braunfels, TX and Michael Hollowell (Betty) of Leesburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Kim, Lindsay, Aaron, Jordan, Jaime, Aya and Emi; and five great-grandchildren, Georgie, Gabe, Lily, Hadley and Lexi.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. in Eure Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the social hall immediately following the service.
