GATES, NC – Earl Lewis Hollowell, 83, of 470 Paige Riddick Road, and formerly of Hobbsville and Murfreesboro, died Saturday, January 29, 2022 in Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Hollowell was born on July 12, 1938, raised in Gates County, and was the son of the late William Earl and Marie Umphlett Hollowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Harrell Hollowell.
A retired grocery store manager, he was a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and on various church committees. Hobbies and enjoyments included fishing, rabbit hunting, playing cards, gardening, and cutting grass.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hollowell Lewis (husband, Larry), and Donna Hollowell Powell (husband, Eric), all of Gates; and three grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Allison Powell, and David Powell.
A graveside memorial service for family and close friends will be held Thursday, February 3rd, at 2:00 p.m. in Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie. With the resurgence of the COVID Virus in the area, no formal visitation is planned; however, friends may share condolences at either daughter’s home on Paige Riddick Road, or visit with the family at the graveside immediately following the service.
