COLERAIN – Wayland Riddick Jones, Jr., age 91, of Morris Ford Road, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor, NC.
Mr. Jones was born on October 29, 1930 to Wayland Riddick Jones, Sr. and Elsie White Jones in the Rosemead area of Bertie County, North Carolina. Wayland was an avid outdoorsman with a true passion for farming, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed his fruit trees, admiring the wildlife in his backyard, and going to the country store to be with his friends. Wayland was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Along with his parents, Wayland was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara J. Parker.
Wayland is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ellen; two sons, Wayland Riddick Jones, III and wife Tammy of Rocky Mount, and Chris Jones of Colerain; a daughter, Caroline Kebschull and husband Bill of Manteo; three granddaughters, Addie Jones, Madison Kebschull, and Malin Kebschull; a sister, Libby Etheridge of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Billy Jones and wife Beth of Colerain; sisters in law, Nita Jernigan, and Sue Britt; brothers in law, Claude Barnette, and Melvin Barnette; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 2-3 p.m. at Mars Hill Baptist Church, Colerain, NC and the celebration of life service will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Mike Willard officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
