COLERAIN – Paul Peyton Jernigan, age 65, a resident of Colerain, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Paul was born on June 13, 1956 to the late Starkey and Mattie Jernigan of Colerain. He was a loving brother, uncle, and friend. Paul worked many years as a supervisor for W.H. Basnight & Company before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and raising chickens. Paul could often be found on Saturday nights dancing.
Paul, in addition to his parents, was predeceased by one brother, Ronald Jernigan. Left to cherish his memory is his longtime companion, Terry Pierce of the home; his sisters, Louise Jernigan (Joe) of Colerain and Eileen Elks of Grimesland; sister-in-law, Christie Jernigan of Colerain; four nieces, three nephews, and five great nieces and nephews, along with a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 20th, 2021 at Elm Grove Baptist Church of Colerain. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private burial will be held at the Mizelle-Jernigan Cemetery in Colerain.
The family will receive friends at Walker Funeral Home, December 19th, 2021 from 4-6 p.m.
Memorial donations may be directed to The American Cancer Society or Samaritans Purse.
