AHOSKIE – John Henry Byrd, Jr., age 77, of Alton Street, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at his home with his wife and minister with him.

Mr. Byrd was born on January 16, 1944, to John Henry Byrd, Sr. and Beulah Bracy Byrd in Bertie County, North Carolina. He graduated from Ahoskie High School and worked at North State, and Eastern Office in younger years. He worked for many years as a salesman at Pierce Printing and part-time at Ace Hardware in Ahoskie. He was later the owner and broker for Action Realty Company until his retirement. Henry was a member of First Baptist Church Ahoskie and the Ahoskie Rotary Club. He loved the Lord and his family, and he could be found fishing on his boat after work until he was unable to do so. He loved yard work and growing roses. He volunteered at the Ahoskie Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels, and helped his wife Patti volunteering with whatever she needed at Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps.

Along with his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Byrd Pridgen, and a sister, Margaret Byrd Morris Holloman.

Henry is survived by his loving wife of twenty-six years, Pat “Patti”; step-son, Roger Dale Owens Jr. and wife Aimee of Columbus, GA; grandson, Jacob Pridgen of Wilson; two granddaughters, Alexander Cameron Owens, and Elizabeth Marie Owens, both of Columbus, GA; great-granddaughter, Everly Pridgen of Wilson; sister, Jean Byrd Savage of Gates; two nephews, Bobby Morris and wife Lisa of Ahoskie, and Brian Savage of Gates; and a niece, Robin Savage of Gates.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 10-10:45 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie Fellowship Hall, Ahoskie, NC and other times from the home.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Dr. Jesse Croom, Rev. Dr. Paul Gilliam III, and Rev. Anita Thompson officiating.
