To the Editor:

My name is Jessica Ayers. I live in York, SC and graduated from Clover High School.

My dad, Ernest Wade Ayers, Jr., died of Covid-19 on January 14, 2021.

As of 9:30 on August 14, 2021, 10,039 people in our state of South Carolina have died of Covid-19.

10,039. The number is growing.

Working with Yellow Heart Memorial, I am in the process of co-heading a chapter in North/South Carolina. Our intentions are to try and bring awareness to how deadly this virus is and still stealing our loved ones away.

The tree displays small wooden hearts with the names of people who have passed from Covid-19, and where they were from. The tree display is at 5780 Allison Creek Road, York, SC, 29745

I will also display Faces of Covid pictures created by a wonderful young lady. Hannah, age 16, draws “faceless” faces of Covid victims.

I am having a hard time spreading the word about what I am doing.

I was wondering if The News-Herald would give me some space to tell people in your area of North Carolina of what I’m trying to do and also list my contact information. Hopefully I’ll be able to do this for more families.

Any help you could provide, I would be grateful for.
