GATES, NC – Florence Mae Eure Harrell, 81, of US 13 North, Gates, NC, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

Mrs. Harrell was born in Gates County on December 20, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Cleamon Edgar Eure, Sr. and Amy Howell Eure. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maryland Forehand Harrell, Sr.

A homemaker, she had retired as a poultry grower for Perdue, and was a faithful member of Reynoldson Baptist Church where she had been a member of its Adult Choir and had served as a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are three children, Maryland Harrell, Jr. (wife, Susan) of Gates, and Brent Harrell (wife, Yvonne), and Monica H. Spivey (husband, Fred Allen), all of Sunbury; two brothers, Cleamon Eure, Jr. (wife, Audrey) of Clinton, and Victor Eure (wife, Linda) of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Harrell, Joshua Harrell (wife, Ashlyn), Dustin Harrell, Matthew Spivey, Luke Spivey, Tracy Ward (husband, Shawn), and Amber Mills; six great-grandchildren, Grace Harrell, Nathan and Michael Ward, and Joshua, Louis, and Gary Mills; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Mark Wethington. With the resurgence of the Covid Virus in the area, no formal visitation is planned; however, friends may visit with the family at an outdoor gathering at Maryland Jr. and Susan’s home, 259 Gates Bank Road, immediately following the service. Social distancing measures are encouraged at both the service and at the gathering.
