AHOSKIE – Rachael A. Modlin, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her home in Ahoskie, NC.

She was the daughter of William Thellie and Fannie Dilday Modlin. A 1948 graduate of Ahoskie High School, she later attended Louisburg College graduating in 1950. In 1952 she graduated with a business degree from East Carolina College. Having taught business classes for a few years, she decided to continue her education by earning her Masters Degree from UNC- Greensboro.

A lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, she loved being a part of the Historian committee and worked diligently ensuring scrapbooks were in perfect order. As a member of the Sarah Raynor Bible Class, Rachael loved sending cards to members for all occasions. Other enjoyments included her many travel adventures with the GoGo Girls, playing bridge with her girlfriends, watching Duke basketball as well as spending time with family. She was given the Distinguished Alumnus Award on November 3, 2019 for her unselfish willingness to serve the Louisburg College community. Rachael was loved by many.

She is survived by her first cousin, Joyce Godwin Dail, who was really more like a sister. Other family members include Greg Dail (Nancy), Drew Dail (Jordan), Nick Dail (Molly), Katie Dail, Lexi George, Mary Ashton George, Patrick George, and Keith Boyette.

Our family gives special thanks to Peggy Harris and Margaret Bunch, for their “round the clock” love and care given to Rachael. Thank you, Community Hospice & Home Care and Dr. Sawyer, for the care you all have provided.

Rachael will be laid to rest on Monday July 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be prior to the graveside service at 10 a.m. at Garrett- Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Ahoskie or Community Hospice and Home Care of Williamston.
