AHOSKIE, NC – Grady Woodfin Sumner, Jr., 92, of 921 Liberty Street, Ahoskie, NC, died Sunday, March 15, 2020 in his home.
Mr. Sumner was born in Hertford County on August 13,1927, and was the son of the late Grady W. Sr. and Mary Gatling Sumner. A retired sales representative with North State Provision Company, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, Davie Masonic Lodge #39, A.F. & A.M. and had served in the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sumner Goss and by a brother, Albert Sumner.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Sophia Elaine Perry Sumner; a son, Perry W. Sumner and wife, Janet of Goldsboro; two daughters, Elaine Sumner Beckman and husband, Ralph of Williamsburg, VA and Sharon Sumner Tate and husband, Rick, of Raleigh; a sister, Lil Sumner Lipsitz of Emerald Isle; a brother, Hersey Sumner of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Adam Beckman and wife, Karly, Ashley Beckman, Courtney Tate Abrams and husband, Thomas, and Sumner Tate; two great-granddaughters, Magnolia Beckman and Charlotte Abrams; step great-grandson, Karson Ratliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 12:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie.
