MERRY HILL – Rev. Dr. James Allen Jarrell, 81, of Hwy 17 North, passed away Wednesday May 26, 2021 at home with his family by his side. James was born in Goldsboro NC, November 7, 1939 to the late Robert Edward and Esther Radford Jarrell and was predeceased by a brother, Billy Jarrell. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Ahoskie. Dr. Jarrell was a retired Southern Baptist Minister. He served in the US Navy as well as the US Army. He was a member of the AM Vets, the American Legion, and the VFW.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Ross Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Jeffery Russell will officiate. The committal service will be held at 3 p.m. with military honors at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Faye McKeel Jarrell (married November 1958) of the home; daughter, Lisa Jarrell Shearin of Harrellsville; son, Rev. Al Jarrell of Merry Hill; granddaughter, April Taylor, and her husband Eric; great grandchildren, Addison, Eli and Bailey.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 31, 2021 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to NC Department of American Legion, PO Box 26657, Raleigh, NC 27611.
