MILWAUKEE – Steven Howard Bazemore, age 55, of Milwaukee, NC, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Steven was born on December 29, 1965 to Virgil “Buddy” and Frances Vaughan Bazemore in Ahoskie, NC. To most people a tree is a tall brown trunk with leaves, but not to Steven. He could classify just about any tree in Eastern North Carolina. He spent 20 years in the logging industry until he began working at Enviva Pellets in Ahoskie as a scale operator in 2011. His comedic personality and contagious laugh will be missed by all who knew him. Steven was an avid hunter, fisherman and grill master but his greatest passion was his family. He coached multiple basketball and baseball teams over the years in Northampton County and developed many lifelong friendships from the families of those he coached. If he weren’t outside enjoying the wildlife and reeling in the redfins, he could be found indoors yelling at the Redskins. His life was short lived, but he left a lifelong impression on all who knew him. He was a simple man, who lived a simple life, loving God, family, friends, and his country.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown during Steven’s illness and home going. They would like to thank the staff at the COVID ICU at Vidant Hospital of Ahoskie and Greenville, Northampton County EMS, and especially the outpouring support from Enviva Pellets of Ahoskie.

Steven was preceded in death by his father, Virgil “Buddy” Bazemore, and his brother, Ernest Wayne Bazemore.

Left to cherish Steven’s memory is his loving wife Donna; his daughter, Brittany Bazemore Thorpe and husband John of Emporia, VA; his son, Matthew Edward Bazemore of Raleigh; his grandson, Nick Thorpe, granddaughter, Anna Patterson, and Baby Thorpe, all of Emporia, VA; his mother, Frances Vaughan Bazemore, of Potecasi, NC; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bazemore of Winton, and Rhonda Brown and husband David of Conway; father-in-law, Joe Jenkins and mother-in-law, Faye Jenkins of Milwaukee, NC; two nephews, Buddy Brown of Conway and Joseph Brown of Conway as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 24, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, Rich Square, NC.

A celebration of life church service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse of Hope Church, 1058 NC-35, Woodland, NC, with Pastor Brian Jenkins and Pastor John Keeter officiating.
