AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police have launched a murder investigation after a 20-year-old was found shot to death on Sunday afternoon.

Police Chief Jimmy Asbell identified the victim as Joshua Lee Wolverton of Ahoskie.

Asbell said APD officers responded to a call at approximately 4 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim in the 200 block of Pine Ridge Road, located off First Street in front of the Hertford County High School campus.

Upon arriving at the location, APD officers found the victim outside a residence, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Asbell said Wolverton did not reside at that residence.

He added that APD Detective Naomi Mizelle is the lead investigator on the case and is assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Ahoskie Police Department at 252-332-5011 or Detective Mizelle at 252-287-7647.

Asbell thanked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Hertford County EMS, and Vidant Police who aided at the scene.
