WINDSOR – George Scarborough, 90, of Windsor, NC passed away on April 12, 2021 at his residence. He was born on June 28, 1930 to Matthew and Lelia Toney Scarborough in Lee County, South Carolina.
George relocated to New York City in 1954 where he worked as a shipping clerk at Lion Ribbon Company until he retired in 1967. In 1998, he relocated to Windsor, North Carolina and became a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lizzie Lassiter Scarborough of the home; children, Donald Lassiter of Lewiston, NC, Helen Mack of Bishopville, SC, Thomasina Middlebrooks (John) of Bonaire, GA, George Scarborough Jr. (Justine) of Long Island, NY, Keith Scarborough of Bronx, NY; seven grandchildren, Vernon Mack (Yovonda), Shawn Lassiter, Taren Payne, William Payne, Marla Middlebrooks, Dr. Jasmine Scarborough, PT, DPT; great grandchildren, Maya and Kayla Mack, Peyton Payne; sister-in-laws, Maggie Scarborough, Amelia Scarborough; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
George is preceded in death by his brothers, Wilton Scarborough, John Scarborough, Robert Scarborough, Matthew Scarborough, Isiah Scarborough; sisters, Mary Alice Scarborough, Elizabeth Scarborough, and Cora Bell Charles.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Windsor, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Samuel K. Shaw III officiating. Professional Services entrusted to Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc. 816 S. Commerce Street, Aulander, NC.
