Ridgecroft off to hot start in baseball

AHOSKIE – With five wins in their first six games, Ridgecroft School is off to a sizzling start to their 2021 baseball season.
The Rams also sit atop the Tarheel Independent Conference standings with a perfect 4-0 mark.
Their latest win came at home on March 29 where senior pitcher Lane Slachta hurled a five-inning no-hitter, fanning nine in the process, to lead the Rams to a 23-0 win over Northeast Academy.
Slachta also led the Ridgecroft offense, going 4-for-5 with three RBI. He also scored three times.
Cody Peterson was 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs.
Boone Barkley added three hits, scored three times, and drove home a pair of runs.
Caleb Porter had two hits and three RBI.
On March 25, Barkley and Slachta combined to pitch a one-hitter as Ridgecroft blanked Pungo Christian, 10-0.
Porter and Slachta each drove home three runs to highlight the Rams offense. Coby Hauser had two hits.
Ridgecroft hosted Terra Ceia Christian on March 22 where the Rams pulled away from a slim 3-1 lead by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to collect a 10-1 victory.
Finn Dunn (1-for-2 with 1 RBI), and Hauser (1-for-1 and 1 RBI) led the way. Slachta had a hit and drove home two runs.
The Rams hosted Lawrence Academy on March 15, scoring twice in the fifth inning that paved the way to an 8-7 win.
Porter had three hits to lead Ridgecroft’s offense. Hauser, Finn, and Garrett Brown had two hits each. Hauser also drove home two runs.
Ridgecroft opened the season on March 10 at Arendell Parrott Academy where the Rams plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to notch a 9-8 win.
Porter’s three hits led the way. Barkley added a pair of hits.
