AHOSKIE – Elizabeth “Betty” Sapp Suiter, 82, of Ahoskie, NC, died peacefully on February 10, 2021 following a lengthy period of declining health.

Born in Greensboro, NC, on May 13, 1938 Betty was the youngest child of the late Newell Winfield Sapp and Ruth Pickens Sapp. After graduation from Greensboro High School, she attended and was a 1960 graduate of Converse College, Spartanburg, SC. At Converse, Betty was nicknamed “Sappie” by her dear friends. She was an energetic leader serving as Chairman of the Judicial Board. Betty remembered her college days with great fondness and her eyes would light up when speaking of her days at Converse College and the lifelong friends she formed during those years.

Loved and very devoted to her family, Betty is survived by her husband of 60 years, Overton Stokes Suiter, Jr. of Ahoskie, NC and Pine Knoll Shores, NC.; her daughter, Virginia Suiter Pierce (Paul Davis Boney) of Wilmington, NC; her son, Overton Stokes Suiter, III (Susan) of Rocky Mount, NC; three grandchildren, Suiter Pierce Currin (Benjamin) of Wilmington, NC; Fields Pierce of Nashville, TN; and Edward Hull (Jamie) of Zebulon, NC; two precious great-grandchildren, Virginia and Jack Currin of Wilmington, NC; and her brother, Winfield Sapp (Jo) of Mt. Pleasant, SC.

As President of the Ahoskie Garden Club, Betty shared her God-given gift of arranging flowers for church events, weddings, birthday parties and other special events. An active member of her community, she formed many special friendships that grew from the sharing of her gifts, talents and experiences. Betty was active with the North Carolina Symphony and was appointed by the Governor of the State of NC to serve as a member of the Murfreesboro Historic Association. She was a devoted communicant at St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild for eighteen years and taught Sunday school for many years.

The family would like to express their gratitude for all the love, exceptional care and support offered by special friends and caregivers for the last nine years at The Fountains of the Albemarle and Kindred Hospice of Tarboro, NC.

Due to the pandemic, the services at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC will be private. They will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021, at 11 a.m.
