BELHAVEN – Despite a game-high 19 points from Jessie Martin, Northeast Academy’s varsity girls basketball team suffered a 41-33 setback here Friday (Jan. 22) at Pungo Christian Academy.

The Lady Eagles managed to overcome a slow start (only two points in the first quarter) to make this a close game. Trailing 18-9 at halftime and 28-15 at the end of the third quarter, Northeast scored more points (18) in the fourth period than they had for the entire game up until that point.

Allie Liverman (9 points), Emalee Jones (3), and Leah McDermott (2) added to the Lady Eagles effort.

Lauren Kelly Ricks paced Pungo with 15 points.

Northeast won both middle school games.

In the girls contest, Northeast outscored their hosts, 17-3, in the second half en route to a 23-8 victory.

Hayes Hatcher (9 points), Karson Ricks (6), Payton Odom (4), Chloe Long (2), and Lindsey White (2) accounted for the Northeast Academy scoring.

In the middle school boys game, the Eagles were led by Camden White’s seven points and five each from Jake Parks, Colby Long, and Chance Lassiter to defeat Pungo, 26-9.
