AULANDER – Jarvis Albert “Al” Byrd Jr., age 71, of Millennium, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020, from complications from the coronavirus.

Mr. Byrd was born on February 7, 1949 to Jarvis and Allie Mae Lassiter Byrd in Ahoskie, NC. He spent his entire life in the Millennium area. Al attended Aulander Elementary School and graduated from Ahoskie High School. Later, he earned two Associate Degrees from Roanoke-Chowan Community College. He worked with several businesses and was employed by Robertson Brothers Equipment in Rosemead, NC at the time of his death.

At a young age, Al gave his heart to Jesus and joined Wakelon P.H Church. Over the years, he has served the church in many capacities including usher, Sunday School teacher, and Board Member. He was currently serving as Deacon and Music Director.

Al was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother-in-law Henry E. Lassiter and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his two sisters, Linda M. Byrd and Brenda B. Lassiter of Millennium; and a brother, Luther C. Byrd of Kinston. His nieces, Erin Joy Jones (Kevin) of Hickory, Megan Caton (fiancé Joel Bing) of Wilmington, and Samantha Hill (Chris) of Kinston. He is also survived by one nephew, Jonathan Byrd (Mary) of Kinston. Al was the proud great-uncle of Christopher and Morgan Caton of Wilmington and Whitney, Lydia, and Owen Byrd and Landon Miller Whaley of Kinston. He is also survived by his aunt, Iris Rochelle of Tarboro, and uncle, Jerry C. Lassiter of Capeville, VA.

Due to COVID concerns, there will be no visitation at the home. Friends may reach out to the family through online messages, cards, or phone calls.

A private burial for the immediate family will be held at an undisclosed time with masks and social distancing required. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date when conditions are safer.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to Wakelon P.H Church to help with the cost of a new roof.
