WINDSOR, NC – Thaddeus Cecil White Sr., 74, departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehab.

Whether he was known as “Pop,” “Uncle” or “Big Thad,” he was celebrated for his generosity and affable personality. He was a friend to all who met him, and was a loving caretaker for his mother for many years.

He was a proud father and doting grandfather who loved spending time with his family and was happiest when he was surrounded by those he loved.

Mr. White was a retired construction foreman who was injured in a roofing accident. He defied all odds and lived more than three times his expected life span after the accident. He also ran a gas station in Askewville for a number of years.

He attended Center Grove Baptist Church, was a lover of horses and fast cars – unless it was a Ford.

He was born to the late Cecil and Vivian White on May 27, 1946. He was also predeceased by his older brother, Norman “Hinkie” White.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons: Thadd White Jr. and wife, Lyndal, of Rich Square and Scott Lee White of Windsor; four grandchildren: Brooklyn Jernigan, and husband, Brandon, of Askewville, Hannah G. White of Windsor and Alex Brandon White and Camden Mitchell White of Rich Square; his ex wife and best friend, Sylvia Hughes of Windsor; his sister, Myrna White Aultman of Hampton, VA; one great-grandchild, Michelle Jernigan of Askewville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29 at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29 at Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, with the Rev. Webb Hoggard officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Windsor Police Department, who the family thanks for all the ways they took care of “Pop” in his senior years, at P.O. Box 508, Windsor, NC 27983.
