RICH SQUARE, NC – Mable Gray Dilday Umphlette, age 89, formerly of Murfreesboro, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Rich Square Manor in Rich Square, NC.
Mrs. Umphlette was born on March 5, 1931 to Andrew Jessie Dilday and Mary Brinkley Dilday in Ahoskie, NC. Mable was a devoted member of Meherrin Baptist Church, and she loved her Lord and her church family dearly. She enjoyed playing softball in her younger days. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. Mable enjoyed fishing and working in her garden. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Besides her parents, Mable was preceded in death by a special friend, Vick Kandefer.
Mable is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Brett and husband Jerry of Murfreesboro, and Mary Davis and husband Dennis of Pendleton; one son, James T. “Pete” Umphlette and wife Susan of Conway; brother, Howard Dilday and wife Mable of Murfreesboro; four granddaughters, Valerie Umphlette Wadsworth and husband Tim of Aulander, Andrea Michelle Black and husband Rodney of Murfreesboro, Jerri Kaye Birdsong and husband Robby of Conway, and Liza Davis and special friend Joel Tyson of Greenville; four grandsons, Jason Craig Umphlette and fiancĂ© Ashley of Roanoke Rapids, Steven Todd Umphlette and fiancĂ© Summer of Pendleton, Cody Lane Umphlette and wife Alexis of Roanoke Rapids, and Bruce Davis and wife Susan Lynn of Conway; four great-granddaughters; Morgan Wadsworth, Belle Wadsworth, Jordyn Umphlette, and Kenleigh Tyson; five great-grandsons, Bentley Umphlette, Trace Umphlette, Blake Birdsong, Owen Black, and Gavin Tyson; and a special friend, Judy Davis of Como.
Due to the circumstances with COVID-19 restrictions, Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC will be open for friends to pay their respects and sign the register book on Sunday, June 28, 2020, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC, and other times at the home of her daughter, Jennifer Brett.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2020, at 11:00 am at Meherrin Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, NC.
