AHOSKIE – William Frederick McKeel, age 75, affectionately known to many as “Dancin Freddie” passed away on June 8, 2020 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. McKeel was born in Hertford County on April 16, 1945, a son of the late Herbert and Vadis Blowe McKeel. William worked and retired as a warehouseman for W. H. Basnight & Son in Ahoskie. Freddie was proud to have served in the North Carolina National Guard for several years. In his younger days, Freddie loved to show off his dancing skills, often break dancing for small audiences in Ahoskie, hence the nickname. He loved fishing, shopping and good food, especially barbecue and pizza. The biggest love of Freddie’s life was his family which he enjoyed being with.

Besides his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by most of his siblings.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, April (Willie Morring) Davis of Murfreesboro, NC; his son, Darryl (Loida) McKeel of Chesapeake, VA; two granddaughters, Brittney (Kevin) Johnson, and Kaylea Davis; a grandson, Brendan McKeel; a great grandson, Noah Johnson; and a sister, Ethelene “Duke” Hoggard of Elizabeth City, NC.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
