Filing opens next week for seats on the Bertie County Board of Education as well as for one seat each on both the Bertie County and Hertford County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors.

Individuals seeking election to the Bertie County Board of Education and Bertie Soil and Water Conservation District are required to file a Notice of Candidacy at the office of the Bertie County Board of Elections in Windsor.

The filing period opens at 12 noon on Monday, June 8 and closes at noon on Monday, July 6.

Seats open during the 2020 election cycle on the Bertie County Board of Education are in District 1 and District 5. Those respective seats are currently held by Bobby Occena and Tarsha Dudley.

The seat open this year on the Bertie Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors is currently held by John M. Griffin.

In Hertford County, the Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors seat open during the 2020 election cycle is currently held by Stuart Pate Pierce.

Filing for that seat opens at 12 noon on Monday, June 8 and closes at 12 noon on Thursday, July 2.

Those wishing to file a Notice of Candidacy in either county should be reminded that both the elections offices in both counties are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, visits can be scheduled by making an appointment. The Bertie Elections Office (210 West Watson Street, Windsor) can be contacted at 252-794-5306. The Hertford County Elections Office (418 Everett Street – Suite A, Ahoskie) can be reached by calling 252-358-7812. Both offices are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Candidates can choose to download Notice of Candidacy forms online, fill them out, have them notarized, and mailed (along with a filing fee).

Filing for the Hertford County Board of Education opens early next month.
