ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – Born February 27, 1962 in Whiteville, NC; Gregory Greer, 58, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, met Jesus on the evening of May 8, 2020 in Greenville, NC at Vidant Medical Center. He died of complications resulting from a sudden Anoxic Brain Injury (Stroke). His passing has created a great void in the hearts of his family and friends – he will be greatly missed.
Greg grew up in Ahoskie, NC. He spent four years attending Freewill Baptist Bible College (AKA Welch College) located in Gallatin, TN (while living in Nashville) during the early 80’s where he played soccer.
He married once in July 1999 in Norfolk, VA and resided there for eight years. Formerly employed there at Lillian Vernon Corp., and locally for 10 years at FDY Inc. (Cummings Diesel), he died as a current employee of Allegiance Industries at the Roanoke Rapids Paper Mill.
Greg was an avid fisherman who loved all sports (especially UNC-Tar Heels), eating steak and pasta and he enjoyed traveling to the mountains and beaches of NC, VA and TN. He was a dedicated family man who worked hard to provide love, support and guidance to those he cared about.
Greg is survived by his wife, Wanda Greer, and an adopted daughter, Alexis Manning plus two stepdaughters, Christine and Mellissa, and one stepson, Bob. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his parents, Jimmie and Maxine Greer, now residing in Lasker, NC; three brothers and their families, including Jeff and Andrea Greer (of Lasker, NC), Dan and Tina Greer (of White, SD), and Randy Greer (of Morehead City, NC); as well as one sister, Marlene Jarvis (of Oak Hill, WV); plus several nieces and nephews.
Reverend Paul Ange is officiating over the service arrangements on May 19th, which are being conducted through the Hockaday Funeral Chapel in Roanoke Rapids where memorial flowers/gifts are being accepted.
