WINTON – David Cotton will stick around in Hertford County a bit longer than anticipated.

Earlier this week the county’s Board of Commissioners, at their regularly scheduled meeting, voted to approve a contact extension for Cotton who has served as Interim County Manager since early December of last year.

Cotton’s original contract with the county was good through March 31. During that time, the commissioners continued their efforts to hire a permanent manager, which has yet to be filled.

The new contact became effective April 1 and ends on June 30, unless a full-time manager is hired during that time. If not, the county can choose to extend the contract beyond June 30.

Per his original employment contract with Hertford County, Cotton will be paid $60 per hour (working a four-day week: Monday through Thursday). He will also be reimbursed up to $300 per week for any overnight lodging in Hertford County as well as paid mileage for trips from his residence to Winton.

As part of his extended contact, Cotton will be added to the county’s health insurance plan effective May 1.

Before coming to Winton, Cotton served as the Onslow County Manager from May of 2017 until Oct. 30, 2019. Prior to that, Cotton served Onslow County as an assistant and deputy manager.
