AHOSKIE – Joseph Andrew Hejnas, 97, passed peacefully on February 7, 2020 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Helen Hejnas: sisters, Jean McCue, Dorothy Polcer, and Teresa Myers; brother, Andrew Hejnas; wife, Margaret (Peggy) Hejnas; and daughter, Helen Uzakewicz.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, daughter, Barbara Fitzhugh; granddaughters, Lauren Wells (Delton) and Heather Fitzhugh-Bowers (Durrell); grandson, Douglas Uzakewicz; and five great grandchildren: Shyla Fitzhugh, Amelia Fitzhugh-Powell, Andrew Fitzhugh-Powell, Donovan Bowers, and Amiracle Wells.

Joseph was a proud WW2 Air Force veteran.

The family would like to thank Dr. Semaan Khoury, Dr. Rony Shammas and Vidant Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.

There will be no service at Joseph’s request but a private memorial will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Vidant Hospice, Ahoskie would be appreciated.
