TARBORO, NC – Carolyn Spruill Freeman Phelps, 88, a resident of The Fountains of the Albemarle in Tarboro, died Sunday, January 26, 2020.

She was born in Washington, County on February 13, 1931 to the late Moye Winfield and Fannie Mae Stell Spruill and was predeceased by her two husbands, Henry L. Freeman and Julian Phelps.

Carolyn was a homemaker and member of Cashie Baptist Church where she was involved in the WMU and a member of the Ella Gatlin Sunday school class. She was a member of the DAR and the Mayflower Descendants.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Cashie Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Carroll Tarkington and Rev. Todd Cienske will officiate. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Her survivors include daughters; Nancy Freeman Joyner of Windsor, Betty Freeman Martin and husband Thomas of Four Oaks, and Marcia Freeman Price of Merry Hill; son; Henry L. Freeman, Jr. of Plymouth; sister, Frances S. Chandler of Roper; grandchildren, Jamie Alexander Harmon, Rene Freeman, Summer Freeman, Beth Winstead, Sharon Meredith, Donald Mozingo, Matthew Price, Jennifer Dean and Christin Dean; 16 great grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, January 28th at Cashie Baptist Church and from the home of Nancy F. Joyner, 601 Sterlingworth Street, Windsor at other times.
