NEW BERN – Terry Louis Kearney received a 5-year prison sentence for his role in a heroin trafficking case.

United States District Court Judge Louise Wood Flanagan in New Bern on Wednesday also gave Kearney, of Roanoke Rapids, five years of supervised release following the completion of his federal sentence, court records show.

A man tied to Kearney, Deandre Lamont Miles, had his sentencing date moved to April 6.

Kearney pleaded guilty to charges he knowingly and intentionally possessed with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of heroin.

Three other counts against him were dismissed upon his sentencing.

Both Kearney and Miles were tied to fentanyl and heroin trafficking in the Roanoke Valley and an informant told law enforcement Miles was a major supplier of heroin and fentanyl in Halifax and Northampton counties.

The informant also told the government Miles was known to make several trips to locations including South Carolina to pick up large amounts of narcotics and bring them back to the Warner Bridge Road area of Northampton County.

Miles took a plea in September in which he admitted he knowingly and intentionally possessed with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl.

The indictment against Miles linked him to the distribution of 100 grams or more of heroin and 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
