Colerain Family Dollar robbed; clerk shot

The News-Herald is working to gain more information regarding the armed robbery late this morning (Friday) at the Family Dollar store in Colerain.

A clerk at that store was shot, but early indications are that the clerk did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

Two black males were seen leaving on foot.

Colerain Elementary School has been placed on immediate lockdown.

Bertie Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene and other law enforcement agencies were en route as of 11:50 a.m.

UPDATE: as of 12:30 p.m., law enforcement had set up a perimeter and a tracking dog was in use.
