AULANDER – Jimmy Wayne Hurdle, 75, of 819 Saint John Millennium Road, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Mr. Hurdle was born in Hertford County on March 13, 1944, and was the son of the late William and Betty Louise Lassiter Hurdle. Retired from animal control with Hertford County Emergency Management, he had previously worked as a carpenter with Western Branch Diesel, and had served in the NC National Guard. A member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, he was active with the Brotherhood, and had also previously enjoyed fellowship in Brantley’s Grove Baptist Church where he was a member for 25 years. Other enjoyments included fishing, restoring old tractors, gardening, and good country cooking, especially his corn bread. Mr. Hurdle never met a stranger, and his greatest passion was for the lost and making the most out of every opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Hurdle.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Gaila Collingsworth Hurdle; two sons, Greg Hurdle and wife, Julie, and Troy Hand, all of Aulander; and a daughter, Stacy Fitzgibbon and husband, Brian, of Cary. Together Jimmy and Gaila shared eight grandchildren, Brooke Hurdle Crawford (Tommy), Austin and Landon Hurdle, Katelynn and Kole Kennington, Nolan Blowe, and Paris and Cailyn Hand. Also surviving are his special cousin, Barry Blowe; his uncle, Kenny Hurdle; his brother-in-law, Howard Collingsworth; and many other extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18 at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Baptist Church, and will be conducted by Pastors Greg Hurdle and Jimmy Ward. Burial will follow in the Job Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation in the fellowship hall of the church the hour prior to the services on Saturday, and all other times at the residence.
