MENOLA, NC – Kate Shoulars Barber, age 88, was reunited with her beloved husband and her Lord Jesus Christ on December 20, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Barber was born in Bertie County on January 9, 1931, a daughter of the late Charlie Everett and Lucy Burkett Shoulars. Kate married her soulmate, K. P. Barber, and for the first few years they farmed together. Kate was a loving and devoted wife and mother, but above all, she was a spectacular grandmother, with her two grandsons being her heart and world. Kate enjoyed crafting, and reading, and she especially enjoyed talking on the phone to all of her beloved Menola community.
Besides her parents and devoted husband, Kate was preceded in death by her brothers, George Shoulars, and Everett Shoulars.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Donna Jane Barber of Lawrenceville, GA, Linda B. Creech, and husband, Will of Prospect, KY, and Kay B. Evans and partner Jim Robertson of Chocowinity, NC; and two grandsons, Kenneth Lloyd Creech, and Jeffrey Barber Creech of Louisville, KY.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2019, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at her home.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Willie McLawhorn and Bill Burkett officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made directly to Menola Baptist Church, C/O Gwen Northcott, 1012 Menola-St. John Rd., Woodland, NC, 27897; or you may donate online by visiting www.tmcfunding.com/search; then type Kate Barber; or you may donate to a favorite charity of choice.
Kate will be sorely missed by all who knew her, and while the family knows that she is present with her Savior, they appreciate your prayers as they mourn the loss of her passing.
