AULANDER, NC – Carolyn Whitley Harrell, age 72, of Aulander, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

She was born on November 7, 1946 to the late Luther Everett Whitley and Annie Ruth White Whitley in Harrellsville, NC. Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a humble and compassionate woman who always put others first.

Carolyn retired as Deputy Tax Collector for Hertford County after many years of service. She loved to cook, sew, garden, and work in the yard. Carolyn loved her flowers, enjoyed traveling with her family, always taking vacations twice a year to the beach and mountains. She was a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church where her Lord, her church family and her faith were very important to her. Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Joseph Bennett Whitley.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald Harrell; her son, Bill Harrell and wife Julie of Clayton; her daughter, Lynette King and husband Doug of Sanford; five granddaughters, Kylie, Leah, Lucy, Anna, and Everette; one grandson, Ian; and two sisters, Nell Marie Whitley of Ahoskie, and Joan Elaine Feldman of Bumpass, VA.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie and other times at the home.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at the St. John Baptist Church in Ahoskie, with Rev. Douglas VanNiel officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie.
