Hats off to all those behind the scenes who made Fall Fling 19 such a huge success. Event organizers John Fritz and Amy Braswell were joined by a small army of volunteers who all worked in harmony to reach the main goal of Fall Fling – to promote downtown Ahoskie.

From the first musical note of the day – the National Anthem sung so beautifully by Kelly Miller just as the sun was rising to warm-up a chilly Saturday morning – to the last one that night from the Breadwine & Blooze Band, Fall Fling 19 was everything it was planned to be and more.

From the children’s activities and car show on the east end of Main Street, to a 5K Run and five bands on the west side – with food and craft vendors, and a huge yard sale in-between – there was something for all ages and tastes to enjoy.

The most repeated comment heard by this newspaper from event patrons on Saturday was, “I can’t believe I’m in Ahoskie.” That remark serves as a tribute to all the months of hard work that went into the planning of Fall Fling 19. Organizers envisioned transforming Main Street into what it once was….a thriving area of town, busy with shoppers. Those same leaders now strive to see Main Street return to its glory days…a vision shared by others. Fall Fling 19 served as a launching pad to make that dream a reality.

Plans are already underway for Fall Fling 20 next October. We would encourage everyone who shares a vision to revitalize Ahoskie’s downtown business district to join the effort. Let’s make this annual event the premier festival in all of eastern North Carolina!
