AHOSKIE, NC – Edith Sumner Dunn, age 95, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Accordius Health at Creekside Care in Ahoskie.

Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was born in Hertford County, NC on July 13, 1924 to Jesse Irvin and Bernice Britton Sumner. She was the owner/operator of a grocery store for 35 years. Edith loved to read books, especially her Bible. She and her late husband, Franklin, were married in 1942 and enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. Edith cherished her entire family, especially her two sons. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Dunn; her grandchild, Shana Paige Dunn; and her sisters, Juanita Mae Sumner Newsome and Jessie Sumner Riddick.

Edith is survived by her sons, Franklin Stuart Dunn and wife Linda Barnes of Snow Hill, and Ronald Earl Dunn and wife Robin Minton of Cary; her grandchildren, Christopher Stuart Dunn and wife Rebecca of Southern Pines, Bradley Harrison Dunn of Winston Salem, and Jeremy Ethan Dunn of Smithfield, NC; and her great-grandson, C.J. Dunn.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Johnny Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
