MURFREESBORO, NC – Walter Raleigh Garris Sr. 89, died September 13, 2019 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie NC. He was a native of Hertford County and the son of William Russell Garris and Nannie Blowe Garris.

He was retired from Union Camp Paper Mill Corp. in Franklin, Virginia and had, formerly, worked at Tylon Manufacturing Corp. in Woodland. He was a faithful member of Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro where he had served in many ways in the church during his membership.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Montie Vann Garris, and his son, Walter Raleigh Garris, Jr.

A graveside service for Mr. Garris was held on Sunday, September 15, 2019 in the Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery, Murfreesboro, with Rev. James Hutchinson and Rev. John Porter presiding.
