AHOSKIE – Two suspects are sought after they made off with a bag of money just prior to a night deposit at an Ahoskie bank.

The incident was reported at 9:41 p.m. on Labor Day (Sept. 2). Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said two employees with Dollar Tree were attempting to place the bag of money into the night deposit slot located at the rear of Wells Fargo Bank, located on Main Street.

“As the two female employees were walking up to the night deposit slot, they were approached by two males, both of whom were armed with weapons,” Fitzhugh said. “It was basically and grab-and-run style robbery as the bank bag was snatched from the hands of one of the employees and then the two suspects ran off.”

The amount of money in the bag was not disclosed.

The Police Chief added that the suspects were only described as males, each with a dark colored tie covering their faces.

He added that neither of the employees were injured during the robbery.

APD Detective Justin Farmer is handling the investigation. Those with information on this case can contact Farmer at 252-332-5011.

Fitzhugh reminded Ahoskie businesses that his department will provide escorts for those making night deposits at a bank.

“We have offered this service for a long time and highly recommend it. We will provide the security while the deposit is being made,” Fitzhugh stated.

To arrange for the service, contact the Ahoskie Police Department (332-5011) or the Hertford County E-911 Communications Center (358-0231) in advance.
