Verdie F. Chitty

AHOSKIE, NC – Verdie Francis Chitty, age 96, passed away on August 2, 2019 at the Barbour Court Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Smithfield, NC.

Mrs. Chitty was born in Northampton County, NC on May 1, 1923, a daughter of the late William and Olivia Brittle Francis. Verdie and her late husband, Zeb Thomas Chitty Jr., were Co-Owners/Operators of Zeb’s Footwear in Ahoskie. Verdie was an outstanding homemaker and excellent cook and loved cooking for family and friends. She enjoyed crafting, especially macramé and ceramics, and you could always find her working in her yard.

Mrs. Chitty loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a devoted friend, keeping in touch with them for many years. With Verdie, “once a friend, always a friend.”

Besides her parents and husband, Verdie was predeceased by her brothers, Carl and George Francis; and her sister, Vida F. Harris.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, T. Glenn Chitty and wife, Linda of Clayton, NC; a granddaughter, Sheree C. Moeller of Clayton, NC; and grandson, Scott Chitty and wife, Dana of Raleigh, NC; three great grandsons, Jack Austin Moeller and Thomas Wyatt Moeller of Clayton, NC, and Luke Hudson Chitty of Raleigh, NC; and two great granddaughters, Stella Elizabeth Moeller of Clayton, NC, and Dylan Elizabeth Chitty of Raleigh, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Anita Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to services on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 10:30 am until 10:45 am at the funeral home.
