Biker killed in Sunday accident

CONWAY – A single vehicle accident cost a Rich Square man his life near here Sunday morning.

Milkie McCoy Clark, age 37, of Roberts Road, died after the 1989 Honda dirt bike he was operating on NC 35 ran off the road. The accident scene was less than one-half mile south of Conway.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper D. Edwards, Clark was southbound on NC 35 at around 10:13 a.m. The bike he was operating ran off the right side of the road at which time it initially traveled through a ditch before impacting a utility pole.

Clark was ejected from the bike and died at the scene.

Trooper Edwards noted in his report that the dirt bike was not licensed to operate on a public highway.

Other than the North Carolina Highway Patrol, other first responders at the scene were the Conway Volunteer Fire Department, Conway Police, deputies with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, and Northampton County EMS.

The fatality was the 13th this year in the North Carolina Highway Patrol’s Troop C / District 8 area (Northampton and Halifax counties). Eight of those have occurred in Northampton County.
