Races develop as municipal filing closes

The window for filing for municipal seats closed officially this past Friday, and the final submissions for candidates for council/commissioners seats and mayor positions for 2019 election cycle are finalized.

These are the 2019 municipal candidates:

Hertford County

In Ahoskie, Weyling J. White is the sole candidate for mayor, as incumbent Mayor Jimmie Rowe opted not to seek a second term. The candidate for town council member Ward A is Matt Bradley, and for Ward B candidates are Charles B. Reynolds and David D. Robertson.

In the town of Cofield, the candidate for mayor is June S. Wynn, and the candidates for town council members are Charleen Harrell and Rhonda L. Taylor.

Candidates for Harrellsville town council members are Deborah A. Baker, Ronnie Revell, Lisa A. Hunnicutt, Emma Gail Perry and Thomas Grimes. Henry Nuss is the sole candidate for mayor.

In Murfreesboro, the candidate for mayor is Hal Thomas. The six candidates for the five seats on the town council are David Brown, Craig L. Dennis, Jay Revelle, Berna L. Stephens, Vasilis S. (Bill) Theodorakis and Sarah Whitley Wallace.

The sole candidate for town of Winton mayor is Evans Heath. There are seven candidates for five town council seats: Blake Blythe, William J. (WJ) Boone, Aislinn Branch, Tiffany Michelle Lewis, James (Bud) Manley, Emily (Emy) Winstead and James Donavon Cannette.

Bertie County

In Askewville, the candidate for mayor is Gloria M. Bryant. Michael Baker, Kay Brantley and Carla Pesce are the candidates for town commissioners.

The town of Aulander candidate for mayor is Larry Drew. Three candidates have filed for a pair of town commissioner seats: Bryan A. Morings, Bobbie Parker and Jerry Welch.

In the town of Colerain, the sole candidate for mayor is William (Bill) Harrell. The candidates for town commissioner are Al B. (Burney) Baker and Jacques R. Turner. Thad Perry is the sole candidate for town commissioner (unexpired term).

There are two candidates for mayor in Kelford: Ahmad Vaughan and Bailey N. Parker. Meanwhile, seven candidates are in the race for the five seats on the Kelford Town Commission: John (Timmy) Eaton, James H. Bland, Jr., Wayne Bland, Jim T. Harrell, Randy D. Robtoy, Kenneth Ray Cain and Wade (Tim) Emory.

In the town of Lewiston-Woodville, Chris B. Cordon is the sole candidate for town council member of the Lewiston district. For the Woodville district, L. Michelle Gilliam is the sole candidate. Judy W. Brown is the sole candidate for Lewiston-Woodville town council at large.

In Powellsville, James Peele is the candidate for mayor. The candidates for town commissioner are Carlyle Hoggard, Gerald Waters and Hattie Askew.

Candidates for Roxobel town commissioners are Robert Phelps, Carolyn Bracy, David Lee Baisey, Sr., Johnna Browne Lewis and Tim White. Gary Johnson is the sole candidate for mayor.

In the town of Windsor, four candidates have filed for three available seats on the town commission: Camille Holmes Rascoe, Dawn Brown Cherry, Randy Walston and Cathy Wilson.

Northampton County

The town of Conway board of commissioners’ candidates are Walter Lee Duke, Jr., Willie G. Simmons and Stewart W. Woodard.

In Garysburg, Roy L. Bell is the candidate for mayor. The candidates for commissioners’ seats are Semiko T. Jacobs, Woodrow W. Harding, Jr., James Melvin Mayo, Iris F. Williams and Lola S. Ausby.

In the town of Gaston, the candidates for mayor are Carlton Arp and Alice Patrick Delbridge. The candidates for town commissioners are James Norton, Deborah Lee James, Joshuah Hall and Donald W. Conner.

Jason S. Morris is the sole candidate for mayor in the town of Jackson. The candidates for town commissioner are Gary T. Elliott and Bill Futrell.

Dick Collier is the sole candidate for town of Lasker mayor. The candidates for town commissioner are Joan Lassiter, Charles Daughtry, Jr., and Stevie Flythe.

In Rich Square, Reginald White is the sole candidate for mayor. There are six candidates for the five seats on the Rich Square town commission: Charles Eason, Linwood Carroll Bryant, Larry Godwin, Raymond Joyner, Rodney Majette and Marcia P. Majett.

Verlene D. Stephenson, Virginia Crocker-Nelson and Linwood Fenton Clark are the candidates for the two available town commissioner seats in Seaboard.

In Woodland, Randy L. Beale, Sr. is the sole candidate for mayor. Patricia Deneen, Ricky Morris, Barbara Outland and Larry Maggette are the Woodland town commissioner candidates, vying for the two seats up during the 2019 election cycle.

The 2019 General Election is Nov. 5.
